BEHIND THE LENS

A real world. An unreal view.

NAJM is a quiet place to see the bigger picture. These are recorded time-lapses made from real spacecraft photographs, not a computer-generated Earth.

01 / The blue planet

NASA’s EPIC camera photographed Earth every 20 minutes on March 21, 2022. The frames form this full-disc equinox time-lapse.

02 / A world in motion

A 23-second sequence from May 2016, showing changing clouds and the turning Earth through the EPIC camera.

The sound of stillness

The optional ambient soundscape is synthesized for this experience. It is not a recording of sound in space.

The Earth footage and Milky Way panorama are presented together as a visual composition. They were photographed separately. The panorama is dimmed and cropped for this experience.
